Apart from its beautiful nature, its rich history, and of course its beer-loving and kind people, Germany has a lot to offer. The education system of Germany is known worldwide for its high standards and excellent quality. Having studied one semester at a German university will be a huge boon to your resume and your later career. Germany is an open-minded, modern country and one of the safest places in the world. Having relaxed and fun times here can be guaranteed.
People living in Hannover love to describe themselves as “hannoverliebt”. “Verliebt” is a German word describing the state of “being in love”.
Every district of the city shows a lot of variety. There is the vibrant mid-town with its shopping malls and cinemas, “Linden” with its bars and clubs mostly occupied by us students, the “List” that has a lot of unique cafes and is especially appreciated by the families living there. All districts can be reached by bike.
Also, Hannover is called “The greenest city of Germany”, thanks to the “Eilenriede”, the largest city forest in all of Europe. Adding to the rich nature are the many lakes surrounding the city, and of course the Maschsee Lake right in the city centre next to the town hall building. In spring, people love to visit the “Herrenhäuser Gärten” and admire the beautiful flowers planted in the huge park that is a smaller version of the popular garden of the palace in Versailles. On warmer days, you can also go to the Hannover zoo, one of the biggest zoos in Germany. By the end of summer, there is an international fireworks competition taking place in the Herrenhäuser Gärten, with countries participating from all over the world. On colder days, you can visit the museums that are located in the historical city center. The city vibe is calm and relaxed, but also includes a vibrant nightlife!
Hannover is home to several breweries. Best known are probably “Herri” and “Gilde”. This is the beer that we, our parents and grandparents like to drink after a long day of work. We even have a word for it – the well-known “Feierabendbier”.
If you are more of a sports person, you will surely find a favourite team in one of the many sports clubs. Hannover has various well-known sports clubs with Hannover 96 playing in the Bundesliga, the Scorpions being one of the best ice-hockey teams in Germany and the TSV Burgdorf battling for the German championship in handball every year.
If you want to explore more, the city is located somewhat in the centre of Germany with Berlin being only a three-hour drive away, Hamburg 2 hours and Cologne 3.5 hours. Even to Munich you can just take the train and arrive within 5 hours. Germany’s transport system is well developed.
So, what are you waiting for? Come to Hannover, become a “Hannoveraner” yourself, and we bet once you experience the city, you will also become a bit hannoverliebt.
Once you get to experience Hannover, you will fall in love with the city. Promise!
Hochschule Hannover is a university that sets its focus on practical experience backing up theoretical knowledge. Students are taught in small classes of 10-20 people, creating a very personal environment. The small classes provide an excellent study atmosphere to frame the learning experience. The professors are in close contact with their students, always eager to help.
The university also offers a variety of interesting classes you can choose from. At faculty IV, numerous of them are taught in English. Classes range from “Business Ethics” to “International Business Management” and “International Business Administration and EU Integration”, to name just a few offered at the Department of Business Administration. Being so small and familiar, the atmosphere in the Hochschule is super calm and relaxed, offering the best learning conditions. In 2020, the new study center opened its doors, offering students quiet rooms to study or take a break. The library was refurbished, too and is placed right on campus. The whole building looks very modern, surrounded by nature.
If you are interested in sports, the sports program will not disappoint you, offering almost 100 different sports classes to participate in. If you are more of a musician, you can also join a variety of music groups.
As you can imagine, we have a very good community here. In their free time, students often relax in the green spaces or play volleyball on the court, all on campus. We often participate in one of the many events at HsH, for example watch a movie at the uni cinema or go to the semester opening get-together. We offer a warm welcome to our newbies and surprise them with events almost every week.
Depending on your personal schedule, the university offers classes in the morning as well as in the afternoon. Some classes run on multiple days and at varying times, allowing students to select the time slot most convenient to them. Students can either spread classes across the whole week, or put all classes in three or four full days to have some free time to study, work or relax on a full day off. Lectures usually start at 8 in the morning. At 11.45 am we have a lunch break that we spend in our cafeteria on campus. In the afternoon we often have projects or seminars from 12.30 until 3.00 pm. HsH also offers evening classes from 6-8 pm. Once we finish lectures, we often spend the end of the day in the city center that is only 15 minutes away to have dinner with our friends.

The majority of German students attend public schools. There are three different types of schools a child can attend after primary school which ends after year 4. These schools are differentiated by the learning level. If you want to go to university, you usually attend the Gymnasium or the Gesamtschule, also being the longest duration of education.
