Data and information play an increasingly important role in today's medicine. Data and information management procedures and quality assurance methods include the collection, management, integration and ultimately the interpretation of information to create value.

Despite the large amounts of data that are generated today in basic medical care as well as in clinical research and development, the German university landscape has so far lacked a programme that scientifically represents this area of practice in particular.

In the first semester, three compulsory courses provide a basic competence base.

As early as the middle of the first semester, students are selected for one of the study specialisations: Health care and health services research as well as clinical research and pharmacovigilance. The courses in the specialisation are deepened in the second semester through a project study, among other things.

The study programme stands for a high degree of practical orientation. Practical exercises complement lectures and seminars. Project work, excursions and lectures by external teachers from the information practice ensure the connection to current developments in the industry.

In addition to imparting subject-specific knowledge, the development and promotion of students' social, cultural and personal competence is a priority in teaching. In this regard, students are encouraged and supported by a sufficient number of teaching staff. Guest lectures and workshops by professionals from theory and practice complement the knowledge offered in the degree programme. The facilities at the Hochschule Hannover - University of Applied Sciences and Arts include functionally equipped seminar rooms, computer laboratories, a very well-equipped library as well as teaching and work rooms for students. E-learning methods support learning and working, especially in the home environment.

A stay abroad is not included in the curriculum. However, the university maintains diverse contacts with educational institutions and relevant companies abroad and therefore supports students who wish to spend time abroad, especially for the purpose of writing their Master's thesis.

A compulsory internship is not included in the three-semester curriculum. However, the university uses its many contacts to relevant companies and institutions to organise the project studies and Master's thesis in a way that is relevant to practice.

The Master's degree programme in Medical Information Management offers future information professionals a qualification for management and leadership functions and specialised demanding activities in medical information management in hospitals and other health care institutions as well as in clinical research and drug safety institutions and companies.

The Master's programme in Medical Information Management is a full-time programme with a standard period of study of three semesters. In the first two semesters, students attend courses in the form of seminars and project work. In the third semester they write their Master's thesis.

The Student Advisory Service at the Hochschule Hannover - University  of Applied Sciences and Arts advises all students and prospective students. It provides information about offer, content and structure of the courses. In addition, advice is provided on all questions and problems related to studying, for example admission requirements, financing options, changing universities or subjects, examination difficulties, contact and work problems and career prospects.
