Application information for students in higher semesters and those changing career paths

Dear Prospective Students,

The application portal for the 2026/27 winter semester (starting September 1, 2026) is now open.

You can apply online for all degree programs.

Before you begin the application process, please carefully read the guidelines for career changers. You may then submit your application.

Further information on the application process:

The application process is entirely paperless. All documents must be uploaded digitally via the application portal. Please ensure that all required documents are uploaded in full. Requests for additional documents or notifications regarding missing documents will also be sent directly through the application portal. Therefore, please check your portal regularly to ensure you do not miss any important information.

Admission to all degree programs is handled exclusively through the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover’s application portal. Registration via Hochschulstart is not required.

Information for career changers

If you have previously studied the same degree programme at another university or university of applied sciences, you must be placed in the next higher academic semester (mandatory placement).

Exception for Faculties I and II: If you have previously studied the same degree programme at another university of applied sciences, you will automatically be placed in the next higher semester.

In this case, an application for the 1st semester cannot be considered during the allocation of study places! You should therefore select “Higher semester” when applying online. The specific semester placement will be determined by the Academic Affairs Department during the allocation process.

If you have previously studied a different degree programme at another college, university or at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and have completed coursework there, you should check with the Examinations Office before applying to see whether the credits you have earned are sufficient for placement into a higher semester. If you do not have sufficient credits from your previous studies that can be recognised, you will be placed in the 1st semester (provided the relevant degree programme is offered in that semester), meaning you may only submit an application for the 1st semester. If you have sufficient credits that can be recognised, please indicate “Higher semester” on your application. The specific semester placement will be determined by the Academic Affairs Department during the allocation process. You should therefore contact the examination office of the relevant faculty well in advance of the application deadline.

However, if there are insufficient transferable credits, you may be placed in the first semester. For this reason, although you should initially apply for a higher semester, you must also submit a ‘provisional’ application for the first semester.

Exception for Faculty IV: If you have previously studied the same degree programme (Business Administration or Economics) at another college or university, you will automatically be placed in the next higher semester. Applications for the first semester are not permitted!

Placement/Recognition of previous credits

It is strongly recommended that you seek information regarding potential classification or recognition from the Examination Board or the Examination Administration well in advance of the application deadline, as it will no longer be possible to make changes to your application, to withdraw it or to submit it after the deadline has passed.

In both of the above cases, the classification will be reviewed by the faculties’ Examination Boards.
