Application information for students in higher semesters and those changing career paths

These guidelines apply to the degree programmes

• Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
• Mechatronics,
• Technical Information Design and Technical Communication,
• Industrial Electrical Engineering

at Faculty I.

If you have previously studied the same degree programme (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Electrical Engineering) at another university of applied sciences, you will automatically be placed in the next higher semester.

It is not possible to apply for the 1st academic semester. Therefore, please select “2nd academic semester” (higher academic semester) when applying online. We will then adjust the academic semester number accordingly.

If you have previously studied on a different degree programme, your placement in an academic semester should correspond as closely as possible to your actual level of achievement.

However, if there are insufficient credits eligible for recognition, you may be placed in the 1st semester. For this reason, although you should initially apply for a higher semester, you must also submit a ‘provisional’ application for the 1st semester.

It is strongly recommended that you obtain information about possible placement/recognition from the Examinations Office well in advance of the application deadline, as it is no longer possible to make changes to your application, withdraw it or submit a new one after the deadline has passed.

In both cases, the classification is reviewed by the Examination Board of Faculty I.

These guidelines apply only to the degree programmes

• Journalism and
• Event Management

in Faculty III.

If you have previously studied the same degree programme (Journalism or Event Management) at another college or university, you must be placed in the next higher academic semester (mandatory placement). In this case, an application for the 1st academic semester cannot be considered during the allocation of study places! Please therefore indicate “Higher academic semester” on your application. The specific semester placement will be determined by the Student Administration during the allocation process.

If you have previously studied a different degree programme at another college, university or even at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and have achieved credits there, you should check with the Examination Administration before applying to see whether the credits you have earned are sufficient for placement in a higher semester. If there are insufficient credits from your previous studies that can be recognised, you will be placed in the 1st semester, meaning you may only submit an application for the 1st semester. If you have sufficient credits that can be recognised, please select “Higher semester” when applying. The specific classification into academic terms will be carried out by the Student Administration during the allocation process. You are therefore advised to contact the Examination Office of the relevant faculty well in advance of the application deadline.

Placement/recognition of previous academic achievements

It is strongly recommended that you obtain any necessary placements or recognition of previous academic achievements from the Examinations Office well in advance of the application deadline, as it is no longer possible to make changes to your application, withdraw your application or submit a new one after the deadline has passed.

These guidelines apply to the degree programmes

• Applied Computer Science
• Business Administration
• Business Information Systems

at Faculty IV.

If you have previously studied the same degree programme at another college or university, you will automatically be placed in the next higher semester. Applications for the 1st semester are not permitted!

Please therefore select ‘2nd semester’ (higher semester) when applying online. We will then adjust the semester number accordingly.

If you have previously studied on a different degree programme, your placement in a semester should correspond as closely as possible to your actual academic achievement. However, if there are insufficient credits eligible for recognition, you may be placed in the 1st semester. For this reason, although you initially apply for a higher semester, you must also submit an application ‘in preparation’ for the the first semester.

It is strongly recommended that you obtain any information regarding potential placement/recognition well in advance of the application deadline, as it is no longer possible to make changes to the application, withdraw an application or submit a new one after the deadline has passed.

In both cases, the placement will be reviewed by the Examination Board of Faculty IV.

These guidelines apply only to the following degree programmes

• Special Educational Needs – Inclusive Education and Support
• Religious Education and Social Work
• Social Work
• Social Work (part-time)

at Faculty V.

If you have previously studied the same degree programme at another college or university, you must be placed in the next higher academic semester (mandatory placement). In this case, an application for the 1st semester cannot be considered during the allocation of study places! Please therefore indicate “Higher semester” on your application. The specific semester placement will be determined by the Student Administration during the allocation process.

If you have previously studied a different degree programme at another college, university or even at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and have completed modules there, you should check with the Examinations Office before applying to see whether the modules you have completed are sufficient for placement into a higher semester. If you do not have sufficient credits from your previous studies that can be recognised, you will be placed in the 1st semester (provided the relevant degree programme is offered in that semester), meaning you may only submit an application for the 1st semester. If you have sufficient credits that can be recognised, please indicate ‘Higher semester’ on your application. The specific semester placement will be determined by the Student Administration during the allocation process. You should therefore contact the Examination Office of the relevant faculty well in advance of the application deadline.

However, if there are insufficient transferable credits, you may be placed in the first semester. For this reason, although you should initially apply for a higher semester, you must also submit a ‘provisional’ application for the first semester.

Placement assessments/recognition of prior learning

It is strongly recommended that you contact the Examinations Office well in advance of the application deadline to arrange for any placement assessments or recognition of prior learning, as it will no longer be possible to make changes to your application, withdraw your application or submit a new one once the deadline has passed.
