Process Engineering, Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering (VEU)

How are toothpaste, chocolate, bioplastics or medicines produced? How can the energy needs of our future be met? How can we further develop energy storage systems? Or how is delicious beer brewed? Answers to these not entirely unimportant questions are provided by our degree course at the Hochschule Hannover – University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Focus points of the course

Process engineering

is the engineering discipline that deals with processes to change substances in their nature, composition or properties. The focus on process engineering offers comprehensive teaching of basic knowledge in process engineering as well as training in the planning, project planning and construction of machines, apparatus and systems for the mechanical, thermal, biological and chemical conversion of substances. It enables graduates to develop and implement safe and environmentally compatible processes that achieve the required product quality with rational use of raw materials and energy.

The increasing importance of environmental protection is taken into account by teaching in-depth knowledge of technical measures to reduce environmental pollution. In addition, the specialisation in

Environmental Engineering

imparts basic knowledge about German environmental legislation in the areas of recycling management, immission control and waste water law.

In the

Energy engineering

specialist field, in addition to teaching the basics of thermodynamics, great emphasis is placed on new technologies and on energy-saving and system aspects. As a graduate in energy engineering, you will be qualified to plan, design and construct energy supply systems, with special consideration of ecology and economy. After all, the energy turnaround requires more economic thinking in terms of the careful use of primary energy and thus alternatives to conventional energy engineering for our future. This means that the economical use of energy, the extension of the utilisation chain, the use of renewable energy, energy management and energy logistics, as well as decentralised energy supply are the focus of this field of study.
