Application process for the Studienkolleg
Please make sure to observe the application deadlines.
For degree programmes with restricted admission (NC): 15 June (winter semester) and 15 December (summer semester)
For degree programmes without restricted admission (no NC): 31 July (winter semester) and 15 January (summer semester)
NOTE:
The G-course (Humanities) at the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg Hannover is now offered only once per year in the winter semester. Therefore, applications for the G-course are only possible for the winter semester. Applications for the W-course (Economics) and T-course (Technology) are still possible for both the summer and winter semester.
What is the Studienkolleg:
The Lower Saxony Studienkolleg at Leibniz University Hannover prepares prospective students whose foreign educational certificates do not allow them to study directly in Germany for direct study at a university through a two-semester preparatory course.
Depending on the country from which applicants come, attendance at the Studienkolleg may be required beforehand. During the application process for Hochschule Hannover, uni-assist will determine on the basis of the certificates uploaded online whether attendance at the Studienkolleg is required.
Application procedure:
Please apply via uni-assist for a degree programme at Hochschule Hannover. You can access uni-assist at www.uni-assist/de. Uni-assist will check your educational certificates from your home country to determine whether you qualify for direct admission to a university or whether you must first attend the Studienkolleg.
Information about the processing fees can be found here:
https://www.uni-assist.de/bewerben/kosten-zahlen/bearbeitungskosten/.
Please register and apply online at uni-assist.
Hochschule Hannover accepts a purely online application via uni-assist with simple copies of certificates. The online application including the upload of documents is sufficient.
An overview of the degree programmes currently offered by Hochschule Hannover can be found at https://www.hs-hannover.de/studium/studienangebot/bachelorstudiengaenge/
Application deadlines:
Detailed information on the application deadlines for the different degree programmes can be found in the information sheet for applicants with foreign educational certificates.
Please note that an application to Hochschule Hannover will only be processed by uni-assist if at least one language certificate is uploaded: Goethe Certificate B1, telc B1 or ÖSD B1. Language certificates from private language institutions are not accepted by Hochschule Hannover.
After your application documents have been reviewed by uni-assist, the Student Administration of Hochschule Hannover will provide you with information about the registration for the admission procedure of the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg at Leibniz University Hannover.
All further information will be provided directly by the Studienkolleg.
Please note that invitations to the entrance test are sent exclusively by the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg at Leibniz University Hannover.
Based on the submitted certificates, the Studienkolleg will make a preselection and send invitations to the entrance test.
Which German language certificates can be submitted:
Only recognised German language certificates at least at level B1 including for example:
Onset
TestDaF
DSH, DSD I and II
telc, telc Hochschule
Goethe Certificates
ÖSD Certificates
Unicert
IB German
Certificates from TU Clausthal
Certificates from TU Braunschweig
Certificates from other test providers are not accepted.
The invitation from the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg Hannover to the second part of the admission procedure depends on the level of the proven language proficiency. Since many applicants already submit C1 or B2 certificates, applicants with only a B1 certificate currently have little chance of receiving an invitation.
Only applicants who have received an invitation to the entrance test may participate in the test on site.
Further information on this procedure can be found on the website of the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg Hannover https://www.stk.uni-hannover.de/de/
or at https://www.stk.uni-hannover.de/de/kursteilnahme/aufnahmetest
External assessment examination:
Applicants who feel confident taking the assessment examination (Feststellungsprüfung – FSP) without prior course attendance can apply for the external FSP via uni-assist.
Only the following language certificates are accepted for participation in the external FSP:
DSD II
DSH-2
Goethe Certificate C2
IB German Level A
ÖSD Certificate C1
telc Hochschule C1
TestDaF at least 4x4
Unicert III
After a successful application via uni-assist, we will register you with the Lower Saxony Studienkolleg. The Lower Saxony Studienkolleg Hannover will then send you all further information about the registration for the external FSP by email.
Further information on the procedure can be found at:
https://www.stk.uni-hannover.de/de/feststellungspruefung/pruefung-als-extern-teilnehmende/
NOTE:
The level of difficulty of the assessment examination is often underestimated by external examination candidates. This is reflected in low success rates for external examinations (approx. 20%), while the success rate after attending the Studienkolleg is between 85% and 90%.
If the assessment examination is not passed, it can only be repeated once.
