The research clusters were determined through an internal university competition. The basic requirement for competitors was proof of significant research strength. The research clusters that have now been named have, among other things, acquired third-party funding of around 10 million euros as well as more than 700 publications and specialist presentations in the years 2013 to 2015. With a view to the HsH research strategy adopted in 2015, it was analyzed where and how the existing innovation potential can be increased and how the scientific know-how can be linked in cooperation networks - interlinked across faculties and set up on an interdisciplinary basis. As a result, a total of 6 research clusters were named:
