Course contents
Communication and text skills are focal points in technical writing and editing. You will learn about models of communication and interview techniques. You will also learn everything important about process flows and methods of technical editing. In the writing lab, the focus will be on standardised writing and the user- and situation-appropriate preparation (e.g. for mobile communication) of content.
To be able to create comprehensible texts, you need a good feeling for language and a sound knowledge of German. In this subject area, you will learn how to formulate texts accurately and clearly. In the age of the "Internet of Things", so-called "intelligent information" is being developed. Aspects such as uniform semantics are important and sound linguistic knowledge is necessary.
Here, you will learn how to use Adobe software programmes such as Photoshop and InDesign. You will learn how to create mock-ups, flyers and also the layout of web pages. In our media lab, you will deal with technical photography and the design of films. The aspects of 3D and the human-machine interface are also covered in Visual Communication.
The computer will be your constant companion. You will get to know markup and programming languages such as XML or Java and use innovative technologies to create documentation. In computer science, topics such as content management, single-source and cross-media publishing will be discussed.
In the field of information design and technical editing, it is important to be able to understand technical processes and contexts independently. You will only be able to comprehensibly communicate technical content in this way. Therefore, you will learn the basics of materials science, mechanics and electrical engineering in various modules. In the technical laboratory, you will apply this knowledge and be in direct contact with future engineers.

Why did you decide to study ITR?
»I wanted to do something with language - but I still did not want to study an unprofitable art. The combination with technology, programming and design prepares you for many different professions. Boredom? Not with us!«
»I am studying technical editing because I want to work as a hardware and/or games editor later on. The degree course offers me a good balance between the two most important prerequisites for this: Professional German and computer science! «
